Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he has learnt his lessons from the 2-1 Brazil 2014 World Cup Group G defeat at the hands of the US on Monday night in Natal.
The defeat, made possible by a late headed goal by the USA's John Brooks, means Ghana face an uphill task in their quest to qualify out of a group that also contains Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal and three-time champions Germany.
The 53-year-old, who has come under seething criticism from Ghanaians following the loss, rued the inability of his side to take their chances. Ghana outrightly controlled the game (60% possession), and had 21 shots, of which only eight were on target, but only ended up scoring once; Andre Ayew's 81st minute equalizer cancelling out US captain Clint Dempsey's quick strike after just 32 seconds.
“I have learnt a lot, considering the fact that when you create chances and you are not able to finish it comes down to whether your midfielders or strikers are doing the right thing at the right time,” Appiah said.
“We need to go back and see our mistakes and correct them.”
The Black Stars play Germany on Saturday, June 21, in Fortaleza at 19.00 GMT, in a bid to avoid early elimination
